A snapshot in time!
Dio started the HOLY DIVER tour in Seattle in 1983. Opening the show at the Paramount Theater was Queensrhyche. Just a year before I saw an amazing performance by Black Sabbath at the Seattle Arena on the MOB RULES tour. We'd been wearing the LIVE EVIL live Black Sabbath tape all year, as well as the Dio HOLY DIVER, not to mention the Sabbath tour shirts worn proudly, whilst awaiting the return of the man on the silver mountain. The set on the first side of the DIO AT DONNINGTON UK record is exactly what you heard on that tour. The guitar playing is spectacular and Ronnie sounds great belting out new songs like the opener Stand UP AND SHOUT, STRAIGHT THROUGH THE HEART(favorite guitar solo), and HOLY DIVER. There are also excellent versions of Children Of The Sea and the crowd favorite, Heaven And Hell. Some great RAINBOW moments are worked in as well as some great drum and guitar solos. Definitely one of my favorite tours. The second set is a bonus as far as I'm concerned. It is a fun set with DIO material from the first four records, and some BLACK SABBATH and RAINBOW classics. Be prepared for some epic, 'DINSEY' sized medleys here! This may have been the peak of the medley thing on this tour! Ronnie always gave us our moneys worth! I loved when DIO played all of MAGICA, and then a set of hits afterwards! Awesome! Ronnie always met fans after every show as well. I met Ronnie and Jimmy after the Spokane Coliseum show of the LAST IN LINE TOUR. As far as live records, this is one of the best. Vivian Campbell is an impressive guitar player, and it's great to hear his live performances. Vinny Appice always worked great with Ronnie, and I love Jimmy Bain and this line-up of DIO. This is a must have for DIO fans.
